Band Of The Year - Eight Nominations for A US Blues Music Award

Rick Estrin & The Nightcats (USA)

With Special Guests Lisa Andersen & Jim Pugh

There might not be a band that has won more blues awards than Rick and his Nightcats. This band is better than most of the rest. Kid Andersen is maybe the best blues guitar player on the planet. At the upcoming US Blues Music Awards, the band and its members are nominated for eight awards for 'Band of the Year', 'Album of the Year', 'Entertainer of the Year'. This proves that Rick Estrin & The Nightcats might be the best band of the world in this genre.

Due to the corono virus, we have to postpone the concert foreseen in May to September 18/19, 2020. At the same time, we will upgrade the concert of Rick Estrin & The Nightcats with the presence of Lisa Andersen (vocals) and Jim Pugh (keyboards) that were planned for the originally foreseen September concert with Kid Andersen's Greaseland All-Stars. As a consequence, the Greaseland All-Stars respectively Kid and Lisa Andersen will also present their songs at both of the concert evenings.

The lyrics of Rick stand out and can be compared with top-notch literature. Rick’s talent as showman with his vocals and especially his worldclass harmonica playing are just amazing. The new drummer reminds of the great Steve Jordan. And last but not least, Lorenzo Farrell is the quiet but steady but outstanding worker on bass and keyboards.

Once upon a time in the Eighties, «Little Charlie & The Nightcats» were among the most successful Californian exponents of classic electrified Urban Blues. Ever since 1987, no less than 13 albums on legendary Alligator Records document the Nightcats’ ultra-solid work. But when, in 2008, their flamboyant singer, harmonica player and songwriter extraordinaire Rick Estrin formally became the group’s leader, the combo took off for good. Not least thanks to Norwegian-born Chris «Kid»Andersen, rightfully acclaimed as one of the world’s best blues guitarists and repeatedly nominated as such for several Blues Music Awards, with The Nightcats equally honored as Band of the Year.

Rick Estrin himself, born in San Francisco in 1949, has garnered nominations as «Entertainer of the Year» at the very same Awards, and with very good reason: besides his original songwriting and his musical qualities, he continues to thrill audiences all over the world as a witty and thrilling stage personality, with his unmistakeable coiffure, his sharp dresses and his trademark moustache.

Rick Estrin & The Nightcats are coming back for the fourth time. And no wonder, their latest studio album «Groovin‘ at Greaseland» has reached the number one position in the American Roots and Blues Charts. Later in 2019, the band will release a new recording that also includes the new drummer Derek „D’Mar“ Martin. Derek reminds a lot of the great Steve Jordan. There is no better blues or live band around and therefore Rick & The Nightcats cannot miss when celebrating the 10th anniversary of Groove Now.

We will also fly-in two musicians that were foreseen for the originally planned September concerts with Kid Andersen's Greaseland All-Stars: Lisa Andersen (vocals) and Jim Pugh (keyboard). This makes it possible that also some songs of the Greaseland All-Stars i.e. Kid and Lisa Andersen will be performed at both of the concert nights.

Not to be missed by any means.

Rick Estrin – vocals, harp
Chris ‚Kid’ Andersen - guitar
Lorenzo Farrell – bass
Derek „D’Mar“ Martin - drums

Lisa Andersen - vocals
Jim Pugh - keyboard
