By far the best new act on the international blues & roots scene
Lindsay Beaver - Brad Stivers Band (USA)
The head of Alligator Records, Bruce Iglauer, describes his new colt in the stable as follows, "Lindsay is like the offspring of Amy Winehouse and Little Richard." Lindsay Beaver is a mind-thirtie's Canadian who has long lived in Austin, Texas. Lindsay embodies blues, rock and soul like hardly any other of her generation. Lindsay and Brad will present their new CD that will be released this year.read more
She is a classically trained singer and jazz-trained drummer. Jo Jones or Elvin Jones come to mind when you experience her live. She also has great admiration for jazz. She is like a natural wonder, embodying her songs with great passion and intensity.
Some critics describe her music as an amalgamation between blues, R&B, and rock ‘n’ roll, with a pinch of punk energy. Billie Holiday also comes to mind, perhaps because of her striking appearance. In any case, Lindsay is undoubtedly one of the most exciting young musicians that the blues and roots scene has produced in a long time. Her songs are exciting, catchy and have the depth it takes to be relevant.
Very important to Lindsay's music is her musical and private partner, Brad Stivers. Brad is undoubtedly one of the most promising younger guitarists in the blues and roots world. Lindsay is friends with Jimmie Vaughan, who instantly recognized her talent, promoting her and regularly inviting her to Austin. In 2018, she moved to the blues metropolis of Texas, and with Brad and bassist Josh Williams, she founded her own band.
Lindsay and Brad write great songs together and their music is extremely varied. In addition to vocals and drums, Lindsay is also a very good guitarist. Her congenial partner Brad Stivers, who has also been living in Austin since 2015, is not only one of the most promising younger guitarists in the current international scene, but he is also a great singer. When he plays, he embodies blues, soul and rock’n’roll. Born in 1991, Brad grew up in a military family.
His parents are big music fans. His great inspirations were Stevie Ray Vaughan and B.B. King, but Jonny Lang also impressed Brad very much. In 2010, he founded his own band “Bad Brad & The Fat Cats”, who made it to the finals at the International Blues Challenge in 2014. In 2017, Brad released his first CD “Took you long enough”, which is deemed one of the best releases by a newcomer. Shortly thereafter, he became a member of Lindsay's band and plays on all of the songs on her debut album “Tough as Love”, recorded in 2018 on the renowned label, Alligator Records.
At the beginning of 2019, the two decided to appear under the name Lindsay Beaver - Brad Stivers. The band has developed from a trio into a quartet, in which Lindsay increasingly plays the guitar. Their first album will be released under their new name in 2021.
Groove Now has been following Lindsay for years and has managed to secure her new band for one concert in Basel, their first concert in Europe with the band expanded by one musician – a concert that surely no one will soon forget.
